BCG Commandant Elton Bennett To UK For Higher Military Education

Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, Captain Elton Bennett undertakes a year of study at the Royal College of Defence Studies in England from August 2020 to August 2021.

This initiative is a vital component in his professional military education in strategic level studies to further enhance his capacity to contribute to the National Security apparatus in Belize.

In a message before his departure, Commandant Bennett stated: “I started off this message by pointing out that there is excitement ahead for the Belize Coast Guard in the second half of this year. For me I will share in those moments overseas. As you are all aware by now, I will further my studies in order to qualify to be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, the designated rank required to command the Belize Coast Guard. I will be attending the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom August 2020 to July 2021. For the period that I will be out on study leave, Commander Gregory Soberanis will be acting as Commandant.

“I am very confident in Commander Soberanis’ ability to lead this organization and along with a very capable staff the Coast Guard will continue steadily on course. Strong leadership is very prominent in this organization. This is what makes us who we are. The Coast Guard has demonstrated quality leadership at all levels and this is even more prominent during the State of Emergency. From Ensign Choc at the Quarantine Facility at ITVET and the success of Operation Blue Lightning in the Corozal Bay with strong leadership from Lieutenant JG Juan Bulum, Petty Officer 2nd Class Cocum and Hinds just to name a few, to Lieutenant Freddie Ku coordinating operations in our southern waters we have provided the leadership required during this time of national emergency.”

In his absence, Commander Gregory Soberanis assumes command as Acting Commandant with Lieutenant Commander Alma Pinelo as the Acting Vice Commandant.
